Baby, you have definitely not inherited this fascination from your mama! And to this end i try to do my best not to project my fear/disgust!
As the trees around Titirangi positively hum 24 hours a day with the chirping of cicadas (or "cadas" as Lachy calls them) at the moment, many a happy hour (and I mean MANY) has been spent hunting them and collecting their shells.
So from large spiders to "dandy long legs", Stick insects ("Stickincators") and wetas there is never a shortage of additional "pets" in the household. At least twice a week we have moths, snails, slugs or cicadas to bring home from kindy. Perhaps we have a future Entomologist on our hands.
Lachy is a touch more (okay, A LOT) more apprehensive. He joined in on my shrieks as we discovered two wetas in the playhouse which proceeded to jump at us. Ick.
However, with the current plague of cicadas, some of Isla's insect obsession has rubbed off and he is happy to hold onto them for hours and play with them. "Piders" are another matter...
Bugs at the museum, Isla wants to go to the country that has the Giant Wetas. |
